Candela Mi Son does not have the pretension to revolutionize Timba, instead they borrow the key elements and add up their own ingredients to them. Our band consists in a cultural mix endlessly open minded which aims are : musical exploration and coming together with the audience.
> HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
The TIMBA ? This style, born in Cuba, is the result of a process of modernisation of the world famous Cuban Salsa, opening up doors to new musical horizons. One of the legendary Cuban bands having initiated this process, the well-known Irakere, came out as a bombshell in the musical scene of the 70's. Indeed, they were the very first group to manage the combination between the American funk inspired popular Cuban music, Jazz and Cuban folklore (Yoruba). Some bands subsequently went on with this evolution such as the very famous Los Van Van. They marked a fresh start to a new movement alongside with later illustrious band NG La Banda. Timba was then born just awaiting it's worldwide coming out. As like all over the world, Europe was long to catch this foot call, retreating the Cuban music into a certain cliché because blinded by the Buena Vista Social Club phenomena, which had nothing to do with the present Cuban musical reality. Yet, musicians were early interested in diffusing this music to unexpected countries such as the combos “Calle Real” or “La Tremenda” from...Sweden! Or even Japan with “Orquesta de la luz”...

Candela Mi Son exudes a clashing cocktail of overtightened dancing and music. Strongly influenced by modern Cuban and black American music, “Candela's” power unleashes on stage. Candela Mi Son offers instant and total immersion inside Timba's collective and interactive fiesta, in an over one and a half hour of non stop show, literally bringing the audience into the white-hot atmosphere of Havana in Cuba. Mind the landing...you will feel like a jet lag after tasting our show!
